3. Wildlife Research
a) Nunavut Wildlife Research Permit:
• A Nunavut Wildlife Research Permit is required in order to conduct research
and/or collect samples of wildlife and/or wildlife habitat. (e.g. plants, birds,
insects, and terrestrial mammals) under the Nunavut Wildlife Act. A wildlife
research permit is NOT required for research on fish and marine plants and
mammals as defined under the Fisheries Act, bacteria, viruses, and humans.
Deadline: Wildlife Research permit applications must be received 90 days prior
to the planned commencement date of field research.

b) NWT Wildlife Research Permit:
• Required under the NWT Wildlife Act for research studies on land animals
(any species of terrestrial vertebrates including polar bears and migratory
birds) or wildlife habitats.

c) Nunavut Migratory Birds:
• Permission to study migratory birds must be obtained from the Canadian
Wildlife Service.
Deadline: For projects/activities beginning before June 1, the deadline is
15 February and for projects/activities beginning after June 1, the deadline
is 31 March.
