“Free, Prior and Informed Consent: A practical guide for Indigenous Peoples in Guyana” was first published as a
working draft in 2006, as part of the joint project “Indigenous Perspectives on Consultation and Decision-making
about Mining and other Natural Resources.” This version updates the previous draft to reflect the current legal
and policy context. It also adds lessons from March 2010 and December 2010 training of trainers workshops for
Amerindian leaders and resource persons in Georgetown, Guyana.
This guide should be read together with two companion guides:
“Environmental and Social Impact Assessments: A practical guide for Indigenous Peoples in Guyana” and
“Negotiating Impact and Benefit Agreements: A practical guide for Indigenous Peoples in Guyana.”
